Leeds, June 20: Scotland’s wicketkeeper-batter Elsa Lister has officially been reprimanded for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during the Group B match against the West Indies at Headingley in the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup.
Lister was found guilty of violating Article 2.2 of the Code, which pertains to the improper use of cricket-related equipment or clothing during international matches. As a result of this violation, she has received a demerit point on her disciplinary record, marking her first offense in the past 24 months.
The incident occurred during the 19th over of Scotland’s innings when Lister, after being dismissed, threw her bat and gloves to the ground and kicked over a trash can near the dugout.
Acknowledging her mistake, Lister accepted the penalty imposed by GS Lakshmi, the ICC’s international panel of match referees. Consequently, there was no official hearing regarding the incident. On-field officials Claire Polosak and Kerin Clasté, along with third umpire N. Janani and fourth umpire Nimalie Perera, reported the matter.
For Level 1 violations, players can receive a minimum official reprimand and a maximum fine of 50% of their match fee, along with one or two demerit points. According to ICC regulations, if a player accumulates four or more demerit points within 24 months, they face suspension points, which can lead to a ban.
Two suspension points equate to a ban from one Test match, two One Day Internationals, or two T20 matches. Demerit points remain on a player’s record for two years before being removed.
