Guwahati, July 23: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has called for the immediate resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in response to the NEET paper leak scandal. On Wednesday, they organized a protest rally in Guwahati, demanding a detailed discussion on the issue in Parliament.
The protest march commenced from Rajiv Bhawan in Guwahati, led by the Opposition Leader in the Assam Assembly, Wajed Ali Choudhury. Congress leaders and activists chanted slogans against the central government, accusing it of failing to ensure transparency and fairness in the conduct of medical entrance examinations.
Demonstrators demanded that Pradhan take “moral responsibility” for the controversy surrounding the NEET examination and step down from his position.
The APCC also urged Parliament to hold an extensive discussion on the matter and called for the immediate withdrawal of all FIRs filed against students protesting the alleged irregularities in the examination process in Delhi.
Several Congress legislators, including Deputy Leader of the Opposition Dr. Jayant Prakash Das, and members Zakir Hussain Sikdar, Noorul Huda, Baby Begum, Asif Nazar, Jubair Anam, and Tanzil Hussain participated in the protest.
A large number of party workers and senior leaders, carrying Congress flags, joined the rally. Notable attendees included APCC General Secretary Bipul Gogoi, Guwahati City District Congress Committee President Swapan Das, senior leader Rupa Deuri, General Secretary Imdad Hussain, Bandip Dutta, and Moinajan Begum, along with representatives from the Scheduled Caste Cell and NSUI Assam President Kaushik Kashyap.
The protest remained peaceful under police supervision, with Congress leaders reiterating that the alleged examination irregularities have undermined the trust of millions of students and their families across the country.
The party stated that it would continue its movement until the central government accepts responsibility for the controversy and addresses the concerns raised by students and opposition parties regarding the fairness of the NEET examination process.
