Mumbai, May 22: After portraying the innocent Rinki in the web series ‘Panchayat’, actress Sanvika is set to take on a grey character in the upcoming series ‘Looteri Dulhan’. In this new role, she plays Maya, a cunning con artist who ensnares wealthy young men in love, only to elope with their cash and jewelry.
In an exclusive interview, Sanvika expressed her surprise at being chosen for this role. “Initially, I was unsure if I could portray such a devious character on screen, but I am grateful that the makers trusted me,” she said.
When asked if selecting a character like Maya was a risk after being seen as an innocent girl in ‘Panchayat’, Sanvika replied, “I don’t see it as a risk at all. I always trust my instincts when choosing a project. The moment I heard the brief for this show, I was excited to take on this role. It is completely different from my previous characters. Opportunities to showcase versatility as an artist are rare.”
Sanvika further noted that while many crime shows today are serious, dark, and tense, ‘Looteri Dulhan’ offers a lighter and entertaining take. “Despite being centered around crime, our series is quite fun and engaging,” she added.
She emphasized that this is a woman-centric story. Typically, Indian cinema and shows depict battles between male criminals and male police officers, but this series offers a refreshing twist. “In our story, the thief is a woman, and the pursuing police officer is also a woman. This brings a new perspective and freshness to the narrative,” she explained.
The trend of female-led thrillers is rapidly growing on OTT platforms. When asked if today’s audiences prefer grounded and deep characters over glamorous heroines, Sanvika stated, “Cinema has changed completely. For audiences, the depth of the story matters far more than the glamour or glitz on screen. If the story is compelling, it will definitely engage viewers.”
