BJP Critiques Punjab Government Following High Courts CBI Directive on Corruption Allegations

Chandigarh, October 5 (Daily Kiran) : The Punjab and Haryana High Court has directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to investigate corruption allegations involving Rajbir Singh Ghuman, the Chief Minister‘s Officer on Special Duty, and others. Following this ruling, BJP leader Ravneet Singh Bittu launched a fierce critique of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

Bittu accused Mann of failing to maintain accountability within the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), particularly in light of the AAP’s claims of providing a corruption-free administration. He labeled Mann as “Beiman Mann,” suggesting that the leader who promised a corruption-free Punjab must now address serious questions related to his office.

The BJP leader expressed that the High Court’s intervention has raised significant concerns about accountability at the highest levels of the state government. He deemed the allegations tied to the CMO as alarming and insisted that the public deserves clear and transparent answers rather than political slogans or excuses.

Bittu also referenced recent controversies surrounding the residences of ministers in Chandigarh, highlighting that such incidents have led to increasing skepticism among the public regarding those in power. He called for an impartial and thorough investigation into the ongoing questions surrounding officials to uncover the truth through legal channels.

He praised lawyer Nikhil Saraf for bringing the matter before the High Court, despite alleged pressure and threats. Saraf submitted a petition exceeding 200 pages, detailing serious allegations regarding the functioning of the CMO.

The petition claims that there were demands for illegal payments connected to the appointments and transfers of government officials, as well as large development projects under the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) and Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (GLADA). It also mentions issues related to weapon licenses, land matters, and mining activities.

Bittu asserted that while the Chief Minister has the authority to transfer officials and make administrative decisions in the state’s interest, this power should not be misused for corrupt practices or undue influence. If the allegations against the CMO are proven true, it would represent a severe betrayal of public trust.

He questioned the Punjab government’s response to the ED’s letters and noted that the High Court had permitted the state to present its case. Furthermore, he revealed that the Punjab Director General of Police had received four letters seeking responses regarding the matter, but no answers had been forthcoming.
