Ranchi, October 5 (Daily Kiran) : The political landscape in Jharkhand is heating up as opposition parties ramp up their criticism of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, following his resignation. BJP leader Pratul Shah Dev has claimed that the root of this animosity lies in the CEC’s actions to remove Bangladeshi infiltrators from the voter list.
In a discussion in Ranchi, Shah Dev responded to the Supreme Court‘s recent notice to the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the central government regarding a petition against Gyanesh Kumar. He noted that the petition called for the suspension of Kumar and the revocation of his powers. The Supreme Court emphasized that it cannot strip a constitutional authority of its powers based solely on media reports, deeming it a significant decision.
Shah Dev remarked that the Supreme Court’s notice to the ECI was typical, but those hoping for a major ruling against Kumar have seen their plans thwarted. He stated that the hatred towards Kumar stems from the successful exclusion of Bangladeshis from the voter list. He highlighted that all three election commissioners affirmed in a press conference that their decisions were unanimous. “Gyanesh Kumar is not going anywhere, and this is a major setback for his opponents,” he asserted.
In response to Congress leader Digvijaya Singh‘s comments, Shah Dev claimed that Singh and his party had become irrelevant during Rahul Gandhi’s leadership. He criticized Singh for questioning the RSS and VHP, suggesting that those who once referred to terrorist Osama bin Laden with respect have no right to do so. He challenged Congress to name a leader who had endured significant sacrifices against the British, apart from Lala Lajpat Rai.
Shah Dev also addressed remarks made by Congress MP Imran Masood regarding Smita Machhar. He praised Machhar for her courage, stating that her actions have garnered global recognition. He urged Masood to speak positively about her contributions.
