Mumbai, August 19: Sanjay Nirupam, spokesperson for Shiv Sena, has sharply criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) following the arrests of six individuals, including AAP leader Satyendar Jain, in connection with the alleged Delhi Water Board scandal. He also commented on the Tamil Nadu government’s decision to grant 365 days of maternity leave for the birth of a third child and addressed recent statements made by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
Nirupam accused AAP of misleading the public on corruption issues. He noted that AAP leaders once preached integrity and the fight against corruption. The party was formed after a significant anti-corruption movement, but the current situation has drastically changed. Several key leaders of AAP have faced corruption-related charges and imprisonment. Both Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia, who have portrayed themselves as staunchly honest, have also been jailed. The recent actions against senior leader and former minister Satyendar Jain highlight the ongoing issues within the party.
He stated that these events raise serious questions about AAP’s political claims, which positioned it as an alternative to traditional politics and corruption. The party’s entire political structure and its claims of integrity have now been exposed to the public. He urged voters to evaluate political parties and leaders based on their accountability. The public must remain cautious of political strategies that seek to present themselves as honest alternatives by discrediting established political leadership.
Nirupam also responded to the Tamil Nadu government’s maternity leave policy, emphasizing that India’s demographic conditions have changed significantly over recent decades. Once, the country faced a rapidly growing population problem, leading to various population control initiatives. However, a new challenge is emerging due to declining birth rates and an increasing elderly population, which could lead to an aging crisis in the coming years.
He specifically mentioned concerns in southern states regarding low fertility rates and an aging demographic. He referenced Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s announcements encouraging families with more than two children. This Tamil Nadu decision should be viewed in light of the changing demographic landscape, which could pose significant challenges for the country ahead.
Nirupam suggested that northern states should also pay attention to changing fertility trends and consider policies to avoid facing a rapidly aging population crisis similar to Japan and China.
On Rahul Gandhi’s recent statements, Nirupam launched a fierce attack, accusing him of using divisive political tactics to rally different societal groups around specific issues. He noted that Gandhi initially attempted to mobilize youth and students against the government and is now making statements regarding the OBC community. He questioned why the OBC community would oppose the central government when Prime Minister Narendra Modi comes from that background and various schemes are being implemented for their benefit.
He also highlighted OBC leaders in NDA-ruled states, citing examples from Bihar and Madhya Pradesh. Nirupam asserted that it is inappropriate for Gandhi to provoke OBC sentiments in the current political climate. He claimed that the Congress party’s political agenda and strategy have been rejected by the public, and they are now attempting to gain political advantage by inciting discontent among different social groups.
Nirupam concluded by stating that the public will eventually recognize which leaders and political parties are genuinely addressing their issues and which are merely trying to create discord for political gain.
