Chennai, September 10 (Daily Kiran) : Ajitesh Sandhu showcased an impressive performance at the Chennai Open 2026, solidifying his lead with a bogey-free round of 4-under 68. Played on September 10 at the TNGF Cosmo Golf Course in Chennai, Sandhu now holds a three-shot advantage heading into the final round of the tournament, which boasts a prize pool of ₹1 crore.
The 37-year-old golfer from Chandigarh began the day with a two-stroke lead. Throughout the round, he recorded four birdies, bringing his total score to an impressive 17-under 199.
Kolkata’s Viraj Madappa made headlines with the day’s lowest score of 9-under 63, climbing nine spots from a tie for 11th to second place with a score of 14-under 202. The 28-year-old, a two-time PGTI winner and former Asian Tour champion, achieved this feat with an eagle on the par-four sixth hole, along with eight birdies and one bogey.
Stefan Dneke from the Czech Republic, who was in second place yesterday, slipped to third with a score of 13-under 203. The 29-year-old’s round included an eagle on the par-five 18th hole, three birdies, one bogey, and a double bogey, finishing with a score of 2-under 70.
Chandigarh’s Jayraj Singh Sandhu climbed from a tie for seventh to join Noida’s Amarjeet Malik in fourth place, both at 12-under 204.
Ajitesh Sandhu expressed satisfaction with his ability to maintain his lead without dropping a shot. Despite his three-stroke advantage, he anticipates a tough challenge in the final round, given the numerous birdie opportunities available on the course.
In the ongoing ‘Race to DP World India Championship,’ Saptak Talwar dropped from fourth to a tie for 14th place with a score of 8-under 208. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka’s reigning champion N. Thangaraja scored 72 in the third round after rounds of 69 and 70, placing him at 5-under 211, tied for 23rd.
