SAIL Sets New Record with 21 Lakh Tonnes Steel Sales in December

New Delhi: Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), a government-owned ‘Maharatna’ company, achieved its highest-ever steel sales in December, selling 21 lakh tonnes. This marks a 37 percent increase compared to the 15 lakh tonnes sold in December 2024.

In a statement released on Monday, the company highlighted that December’s performance was its best to date. Several new records were set across different products and sales channels, accompanied by a significant reduction in inventory. The key factor behind this strong sales growth was the timely delivery of goods to customers. Recently, SAIL has also focused on strengthening its brand presence.

The robust sales in December helped the company maintain its growth momentum for the financial year 2025-26. Between April and December 2025, SAIL’s total steel sales reached 147 lakh tonnes, approximately 17 percent higher than the 126 lakh tonnes sold during the same period last year.

The increase in sales was not limited to the domestic market; exports also saw a notable rise, indicating SAIL’s growing recognition on the international stage.

According to the company, consistent strong performance demonstrates SAIL’s strengthened market position, driven by customer-centric strategies and improved operations. Success in both domestic and foreign markets ensures SAIL remains a leader in India’s steel sector while progressing towards becoming one of the world’s major steel producers.

This is the second consecutive month of double-digit sales growth for SAIL, following a 27 percent increase recorded in November. From April to November 2025, the company sold 12.7 million tonnes of steel, a 14 percent rise from 11.1 million tonnes during the same period last year.

SAIL attributed this growth to sales of steel suitable for domestic use, efficient road transportation, and direct delivery from warehouses to customers.
