New Delhi, June 25: Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed Amazon’s substantial investment of $48 billion in India on Thursday, stating that it will create opportunities for the nation’s youth. He emphasized that this investment reflects the growing global interest in investing in India.

In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, PM Modi quoted Amazon CEO Andy Jassy, saying, “It was a wonderful meeting with Andy Jassy. I welcome Amazon’s record investment of $48 billion in India. This will generate new opportunities for our youth and showcases the increasing interest in investing in India from around the world.”

Jassy mentioned in his post that the meeting with Prime Minister Modi regarding Amazon’s future plans in India was very productive. “We have been serving customers, sellers, developers, startups, and industries in India for over a decade, and we are just getting started,” he noted.

He further elaborated on the upcoming plans, stating that Amazon intends to invest over $48 billion in India over the next five years, with more than $21 billion earmarked for AI and cloud infrastructure.

According to Jassy, “By 2030, we plan to create 3.8 million jobs, enable $80 billion in e-commerce exports, and deliver the benefits of AI to 1.5 million small businesses and 4 million government school students. I am excited about the future, and there is still much to be done in India.”

As per information on Amazon’s official site, this new investment will increase Amazon’s total planned investment in AI and cloud infrastructure in India to over $21 billion between 2026 and 2030. The company stated that this will be one of the largest global investments in the AI and cloud sector in India.
