S. Jaishankar Engages with Counterparts from Canada, South Korea, and Japan in Paris

Paris, March 26: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar arrived in Paris on Thursday to participate in the G7 Foreign Ministers’ meeting. During his visit, he met with his counterparts from South Korea, Canada, and Japan.

In the discussions, Jaishankar and Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand focused on enhancing bilateral relations and addressing the situation in West Asia. Following their meeting, Jaishankar shared on X, “I continued our discussions with FM Anita Anand to advance our bilateral agenda. We also talked about the conditions in West Asia.”

Jaishankar also met with South Korean Foreign Minister Park Jin, expressing eagerness to strengthen the partnership between their nations. He noted on X, “My meeting with ROK Foreign Minister Park Jin was quite successful. Our partnership is expected to grow stronger.”

Additionally, Jaishankar had a fruitful meeting with Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi. He remarked on X, “It’s always a pleasure to meet my friend Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi; it was delightful to connect again during the G7 FMM.”

Earlier in the day, Jaishankar arrived in France for the G7 Foreign Ministers’ meeting. He posted on X, “I reached Abbé des Vaux-de-Cernay in France to participate in the G7 Foreign Ministers’ meeting with allied countries. I was warmly welcomed by French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot for my first bilateral meeting.”

Jaishankar is on a two-day visit at the invitation of French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot. The meeting will address several critical global issues, including the Ukraine war and ongoing conflicts in West Asia.

The French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs stated, “During discussions on Iran and the Middle East, all allied nations will seek pathways to reduce tensions. They will also emphasize the security of civilians, reopening maritime and trade routes, and imposing restrictions on Iran’s nuclear and ballistic programs.”

The statement further noted, “Regarding Ukraine, G7 partners will reiterate their support for Kyiv in the energy and capacity sectors and increase pressure on Russia, particularly concerning its shadow fleet.”

Ministers will also discuss various regional situations, including the Indo-Pacific, Sudan, Haiti, Gaza, Venezuela, and Cuba.

According to the statement, France and its partner countries will collaborate to raise international funds for the repair of the Chernobyl confinement structure, which was severely damaged during the Russian attack in 2025. Additionally, a regional conference will be organized to tackle the trafficking of the synthetic drug Captagon in Syria.
