S. Jaishankar Concludes Productive Visit to the U.S. on Trade Agreement

Washington, February 5: Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar recently completed a three-day visit to the United States from February 2 to 4. During his trip, he met with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Jaishankar described the visit as productive and positive.

He highlighted the historic trade agreement, noting a clear momentum in the strengthening relationship between India and the U.S.

Sharing photos from the meetings on the social media platform X, Jaishankar stated, “My productive and positive visit to the U.S. has concluded. Thank you to Secretary Rubio for his warm hospitality. The historic India-U.S. trade agreement is in its final stages and will be completed soon. This marks a new phase in our bilateral relations, filled with numerous possibilities.”

He also mentioned that cooperation on critical minerals is progressing rapidly. Strategic discussions on defense and energy are expected in the coming days, showcasing strong momentum overall.

During this significant visit, the minister held meetings with senior members of the U.S. government, including separate discussions with Secretary Rubio and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessen. They extensively discussed the strategic and economic partnership between India and the U.S.

Jaishankar noted that discussions with Rubio covered several key aspects of the India-U.S. relationship, including trade, energy, nuclear, defense, critical minerals, and technology.

He stated that both sides agreed to move forward quickly on follow-up actions and reached consensus on scheduling meetings to advance shared interests.

According to information shared by the U.S. Department, Jaishankar and Rubio discussed formalizing bilateral cooperation on the exploration, mining, and processing of critical minerals, which has emerged as a vital component of the India-U.S. economic and strategic relationship.

This meeting took place the day after the announcement of a trade agreement between U.S. President Trump and Prime Minister Modi, aimed at reducing barriers and enhancing market access between the two largest democracies in the world.
