New Delhi, August 2: The ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine continues to escalate, with attacks reported from both sides. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Russia launched strikes on the Odesa, Zaporizhzhia, and Dnipro regions on Saturday night. Additionally, airstrikes were conducted in Sumy and drone attacks in Brovary on Sunday, resulting in one fatality and six injuries.
Zelensky condemned the Russian assaults and called for an increase in sanctions against Russia. He posted on the social media platform X, stating, “This week, our 16 regions were attacked. Russia fired approximately 1,900 drones, nearly 1,600 aerial bombs, and 144 types of missiles, including ballistic missiles.”
He reported that airstrikes targeted Sumy on Sunday, leading to one death and six injuries in Brovary. “I extend my heartfelt condolences to their families and loved ones,” he expressed.
Zelensky noted that the city of Kharkiv and its surrounding areas continue to face relentless attacks. On Saturday night, strikes were also directed at Odesa, Zaporizhzhia, and Dnipro. This week alone, over 1,500 locations have been damaged, including hundreds of residential buildings.
He emphasized that many Russian companies involved in these attacks remain unscathed by sanctions. These companies produce essential components for drones, missiles, and guided aerial bombs. This is why the aggressor continues to invest in enhancing its ballistic weapon capabilities and increasing production.
Zelensky stressed the necessity of applying pressure on every aspect of Russia’s defense industry. Such pressure will ultimately help reduce the number of attacks on our people. The scope of sanctions should be expanded and effectively enforced. He expressed gratitude to all those working to make this possible.
