Rules Change

Mumbai, February 28, 2026 (Daily Kiran): Several key financial and service-related rules are set to change from March 1, 2026, which may directly impact household expenses. Like every month, revisions in prices and regulations are expected in areas such as LPG cylinders, railway ticket booking, SIM usage, UPI payments and banking norms.

Rules Change

LPG Cylinder Prices

At the beginning of every month, oil marketing companies revise LPG cylinder prices. In recent months, changes have mainly been seen in the rates of commercial LPG cylinders, while domestic cooking gas prices have remained stable. Last month, the price of the 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder was increased by around ₹49. A revision is also expected this month.

Railway Ticket Booking Rules

From March 1, 2026, the rules for booking general and platform tickets will change. The old UTS app of Indian Railways may be discontinued from March 1. In its place, the new RailOne app will become fully active. General tickets, platform tickets and services related to local travel will be available on this new application.

SIM Binding Rule

To curb digital fraud, the government is introducing a new SIM binding rule from March 1. Under this rule, messaging and communication apps such as WhatsApp, Telegram and Signal will remain directly linked to the user’s SIM card. If the SIM is removed from the phone, these apps will immediately stop functioning. They will not operate through Wi-Fi or any other network without the linked SIM.

UPI Payment Changes

From March 1, digital payment security will be strengthened further. Large online transfers will not be completed solely with a UPI PIN. For high-value transactions, banks will make additional biometric verification or multi-factor authentication mandatory.

Minimum Balance Rule

Major public sector banks will implement changes related to minimum balance requirements from March 1, 2026. Earlier, a penalty was charged if the account balance fell below the required limit on any single day. Now, the penalty will be based on the average monthly balance.

CNG, PNG and ATF Rates

Petroleum distribution companies revise the prices of Air Turbine Fuel (ATF), CNG and PNG on the first day of every month. Changes in these rates are also expected from March 1, which may further influence monthly expenses.
