Ahmedabad, June 15: BJP leader Rohan Gupta has responded to Congress leader Ashok Gehlot’s recent comments in Jaipur. Gehlot suggested that if Indira Gandhi were alive today, she would have banned parties like the BJP. Gupta took this opportunity to criticize Congress, stating that the party has yet to move past its Emergency-era mentality.
In an interview, Gupta remarked, “The reality of Congress leaders will eventually come to light. They are still trapped in the mindset of the Emergency. Their hatred for the central government is so intense that if any party defends Hindutva, Congress will threaten to ban them. This is not the India that will tolerate the Emergency. The consequences of the Emergency were faced by both the Congress party and Indira Gandhi.”
Gupta further pointed out the hypocrisy within Congress, noting that while some Congress leaders equate the party with Muslims, there are no questions raised, and the Constitution is not in jeopardy. He attributed Congress’s current state to this double standard, stating, “The country has understood the reality of the Congress party, which is why the public will never give them another chance.”
Commenting on a recent derogatory remark made by a leader from the Samajwadi Party regarding Hindus, Gupta emphasized that leaders from the SP, Congress, or the INDIA alliance frequently attack Hindutva. He asserted that Hindutva has become a focal point of their politics, and they believe that by insulting it, they can protect their vote bank.
Gupta stated, “No one has given you (the INDIA alliance) a license to comment on Hindutva. We have always maintained that we are not against any party, but we oppose appeasement politics. Appeasement is when you insult Hindutva to further your political agenda.”
In response to TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee‘s appearance before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) regarding a teacher recruitment scam, Gupta remarked that the truth needed to come out. He questioned why Banerjee’s name is associated with every corruption scandal in Bengal, mentioning instances of forged letters. Gupta claimed that despite protests from TMC legislators and MPs, Mamata Banerjee‘s nephew has not escaped scrutiny. He concluded, “This is just a trailer; the reality will soon be revealed. Abhishek Banerjee, embroiled in corruption, has ruined TMC and looted public funds.”
