West Bengal CM Accuses Rahul Gandhi and Mamata Banerjee of Protecting Illegal Immigrants

West Bengals CM criticizes Rahul Gandhi and Mamata Banerjee for allegedly shielding illegal immigrants during a press conference.

Kolkata, November 3 (Daily Kiran) : West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari made strong allegations on Tuesday, claiming that the Election Commission of India (ECI) is working to remove illegal immigrants from the voter list, while Mamata Banerjee and Rahul Gandhi are attempting to shield them.

Speaking to reporters in Siliguri, located in the Darjeeling district of northern Bengal, Adhikari directed sharp criticism at both Banerjee and Gandhi regarding the issue of illegal immigration. He accused the opposition of hindering the central government‘s efforts to achieve the “Developed India 2047” vision.

The Chief Minister specifically targeted Banerjee’s speech delivered at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan on November 1, where she accused the ECI of vote theft. “These days, they aren’t invited to any programs, not even to inaugurate a Durga Puja pandal. Now, they have given a speech at Ramlila Maidan, accusing the Election Commission of stealing votes. While the central government and the Election Commission are striving to rid the country of illegal immigrants and clean up the voter list, Mamata Banerjee and Rahul Gandhi are working to protect them,” he stated.

In a related development, BJP General Secretary Smriti Irani, present in Kolkata, also took aim at the previous Trinamool Congress government led by Banerjee. She alleged that the government facilitated the settlement of Bangladeshi immigrants in West Bengal.

Irani claimed that during the tenure of the Trinamool Congress, many Bangladeshi voters were allowed to settle in the state, transforming them into a reliable vote bank for the ruling party at that time.

“Now, after losing elections in West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee is heading to New Delhi to participate in an anti-Election Commission movement. As for Congress, blaming the Election Commission after every election defeat has become their habit,” Irani remarked.

Earlier, West Bengal BJP chief Samik Bhattacharya suggested that if Congress, CPI(M), and Trinamool Congress had grievances regarding the 2026 West Bengal Assembly election results, they should protest within the state rather than collaborating in the national capital.

He urged, “Mamata Banerjee, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, and Mohd. Salim should have led a protest rally in West Bengal instead of joining hands in New Delhi and organizing a movement there.”
