Congress Raises Objections Against Hardeep Puris Rajya Sabha Nomination in Madhya Pradesh

Congress leader Hemant Katare objects to Hardeep Puris nomination for Rajya Sabha, citing legal discrepancies in his affidavit.

Bhopal, November 3 (Daily Kiran) : Hardeep Singh Puri, the BJP candidate and Union Minister, faces objections regarding his nomination for the Rajya Sabha elections in Madhya Pradesh. Hemant Katare, the Deputy Leader of the Congress Legislative Party, has raised concerns about Puri’s affidavit.

Katare claims that Puri has concealed his wife’s name in the affidavit, suggesting he may have multiple spouses, as he left that section blank. He further alleges that Puri violated election rules by not declaring his assets in Indian currency, instead opting for foreign denominations.

According to election regulations, candidates must disclose any foreign assets or bank accounts, including their original foreign value and the equivalent in Indian rupees. Puri’s affidavit reportedly lacks details about his apartment in Geneva and foreign bank accounts.

Katare also accused Puri of violating the Notary Act by failing to have his affidavit verified by an authorized notary public or oath commissioner, as required by law. He has formally lodged his objections with the returning officer, although he expresses skepticism about the outcome.

Additionally, independent candidate Rajkumar Lohani’s nomination has been rejected. Lohani has requested an opportunity to rectify his nomination papers, similar to how BJP-supported independent candidate Parimal Nathwani was allowed to amend his documents in Jharkhand.
