Odisha Minister Expresses Hope for Survivors in Landslide-Affected Bhujang Nagar
Odishas rescue efforts continue in Bhujang Nagar after a landslide, with hopes of finding survivors amidst challenging conditions.

Bhubaneswar, November 3 (Daily Kiran) : Rescue operations are underway in Bhujang Nagar, Odisha, following a devastating landslide triggered by Cyclone Arnab. Suresh Pujari, the state’s Revenue and Disaster Management Minister, announced on November 3 that advanced equipment is being deployed to locate potential survivors trapped under the debris.
Despite adverse weather conditions, rescue teams worked tirelessly throughout the day and resumed their efforts early this morning. Pujari emphasized the use of sophisticated tools to detect signs of life beneath the rubble, expressing optimism that missing individuals may still be alive. He urged prayers for their safety and swift recovery.
Sudhanshu Sarangi, the Director General of Odisha Fire Services and Home Guards, confirmed that the rescue operations are ongoing in the Ganjam district. Access to the site is currently restricted, with teams entering from the Kandhamal district. The landslide has left thick layers of mud and massive boulders blocking homes, complicating the removal process.
Sarangi noted that the terrain is narrow, muddy, and challenging for foot traffic, which has delayed the teams’ arrival at the site. Additionally, there are no adequate facilities for the rescue teams to rest, forcing them to work in limited shifts.
Around 250 rescuers, including personnel from the Fire Service, Railways, ODRAF, Odisha Police, and NDRF, are on-site, supported by approximately 100 workers. So far, one body has been recovered and identified by family members, who have conducted the last rites. Another body has been located but remains trapped under heavy mud.
Sarangi expressed hope that there are still survivors and assured that teams are making every effort to find them. Further updates will be provided as progress is made in the rescue operation.
The landslide occurred on October 28 in the village of Gidipabli, Ganjam district, leaving approximately 13 individuals unaccounted for due to the extraordinary rainfall associated with Cyclone Arnab.
