Meghalaya Chief Minister Stresses Importance of Early Childhood Care and Development

Meghalayas CM emphasizes the significance of early childhood care and development for future generations during a fellowship program.

Shillong, November 3 (Daily Kiran) : Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma highlighted the critical role of early childhood care and development on November 3 in Shillong. Speaking at the ‘Advanced Care Economy through ECD Fellowship’ program, he described the state’s Early Childhood Development (ECD) mission as a long-term investment for future generations.

During the event, ECD fellows were recognized for their contributions at the grassroots level. Sangma emphasized the importance of improving early childhood care and supporting parents to create a nurturing environment for young children throughout the state.

He referred to these frontline workers as the backbone of the mission, noting that their efforts extend beyond routine childcare to strengthening support systems at family and community levels. The Chief Minister stressed that the early years of a child’s life are vital for physical, emotional, and cognitive development, making consistent investment in childcare and early education essential for building a healthy society.

Through the ECD mission, the state government aims to bolster necessary institutional and community support to ensure that children receive proper care, nutrition, safety, and early education opportunities. The ECD Fellowship program seeks to strengthen the care economy by developing a network of trained professionals.

The recognition of ECD fellows highlights the contributions of individuals working at the grassroots level, transforming the state’s developmental priorities into meaningful interventions for children and families. Sangma’s emphasis on this mission comes at a time when Meghalaya is focused on enhancing its social development framework through early childhood care, deemed fundamental for long-term human capital development.

The initiative places frontline workers and community involvement at the heart of efforts to provide children with a healthy, safe, and supportive start to life.
