
Pune, May 28: A serious road rage incident has emerged in the Wagholi area of Pune district, Maharashtra. Allegedly, individuals in a car assaulted a couple riding a motorcycle along with their three-year-old child. The police have registered a case against four people, including two women.
According to the complaint filed at the Wagholi police station, the complainant, Shantanu Niranjan Shukla, 35, an engineer at a private company, resides in the Majestic City area of Wagholi. On Tuesday evening, he went shopping at Decathlon in Wagholi with his wife, Vartika, and their son, Shivaan.
Around 7 PM, the family was returning home on their motorcycle when a car coming from Kharadi allegedly collided with them while making a U-turn near the Soyrik Garden Chowk, close to Decathlon.
The family requested the car driver to drive carefully. However, they claim the occupants of the car began to verbally abuse them. According to the complainant, the dispute continued until Wagholi Chowk.
During the altercation, Vartika Shukla reportedly took a picture of the car. The complaint further states that near the Avhalwadi Fata Chowk, the car driver intentionally stopped the vehicle, blocking the motorcycle’s path, causing the family to fall onto the road.
The complainant alleged that one of the accused threatened him, saying, “I will finish you here.” Following this, they were assaulted.
During the attack, the assailants allegedly struck the three-year-old child in the face, injuring his lip and causing it to bleed.
The family claims that when Vartika Shukla intervened, two women from the car exited and pulled her hair, assaulting her as well.
After the incident, the family approached the Wagholi police station. The police initially advised them to seek medical treatment, which they did at the IMAX Hospital in Wagholi before filing a formal complaint.
Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, including 184, 119, and 177.
The police have initiated legal action against the four accused, including the car driver, another man, and two women. The investigation into the matter is ongoing.
