Mundwa, September 21 (Daily Kiran) : Alka Kandoi of the Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP) has been elected as the president of the Mundwa Municipality in Rajasthan’s Nagaur district. This marks a significant achievement for the RLP, as it retains the presidency for a second consecutive term.
Kandoi garnered 13 votes, defeating independent candidate Ghanshyam Sadawat, who received 12 votes. Sadawat had previously rebelled against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after not receiving a ticket, running as an independent in this election. In a surprising turn of events, the BJP’s official candidate, Geeta, received no votes at all.
In the Mundwa Municipality elections, the BJP emerged as the largest party, securing 10 councilor seats, along with four independent councilors backed by the party. This gave the BJP-supported group a total of 14 councilors, needing 11 votes to secure the presidency.
The RLP won seven councilor seats, while the Congress party secured three. Additionally, the RLP-Congress alliance received support from a rebel BJP councilor, bringing their total to 11 and allowing them to achieve the necessary majority.
Despite the BJP’s strong presence, Kandoi’s victory with 13 votes over Sadawat’s 12 highlights a significant shift in the political landscape of Mundwa. The decision to nominate Geeta, a first-time councilor, over more experienced leaders like Sadawat and Ramakant Sharma has been called into question following this unexpected outcome.
This election comes amid a broader context where elections in 32 municipalities across Rajasthan, including Bhilwara and Bharatpur, were already decided uncontested.
