Retired IPS Officers Wife Murdered in Hyderabad: Domestic Help Suspected

Hyderabad, May 8: A shocking murder case has emerged in the upscale area of Jubilee Hills, where the wife of retired IPS officer Vinay Ranjan Rai, identified as Sunanda, was found dead. Police reported on Friday that the 55-year-old woman’s body was discovered on the first floor of their three-story residence in the Administration Nagar colony.

Authorities suspect that the recently hired domestic help and her accomplices are involved in this heinous crime. Reports indicate that the domestic worker, Kalpana, originally from Nepal, allegedly conspired with her associates to murder Sunanda and subsequently fled with cash and valuables from the home.

The police believe the murder occurred around 2 AM. Special teams have been formed to apprehend the suspects. According to police, both accomplices of the domestic worker are also believed to be from Nepal.

At the time of the incident, Vinay Ranjan Rai, a former Director General of Police in Andhra Pradesh, was out of town. Their children were present on the upper floors of the house, while Sunanda was alone on the ground level.

According to police reports, the domestic worker allowed her two accomplices to enter the house. The suspects then bound Sunanda’s hands and suffocated her by stuffing a bundle of cash into her mouth, leading to her death.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar informed the media that Sunanda died from asphyxiation. Forensic teams have collected evidence from the crime scene, and the Jubilee Hills police have initiated an investigation.

Several senior officials, including the state’s Director General of Police C.V. Anand, visited the site. Sajjanar stated that initial investigations suggest the murder was committed with the intent to rob, and a connection to a Nepali gang is emerging.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the Administration Nagar area, which is home to many IPS and IAS officers. The police commissioner urged the public to exercise caution when hiring domestic help. He advised those who have previously employed Nepali domestic workers to take all necessary precautions.

He also claimed that similar crimes involving Nepali gangs have been reported in cities like Mumbai, Pune, and Bengaluru.

Local MLA Danam Nagendra visited the former IPS officer’s residence to express his condolences and assured that the police would apprehend the culprits soon.
