New Delhi, June 1: With just a few days left until International Yoga Day 2026 on June 21, the Ministry of AYUSH in India is urging people to incorporate yoga into their daily routines. The ministry has recommended the practice of Easy Fish Pose (Saral Matsyasana) to address common issues such as persistent stiffness in the back and neck, as well as digestive problems.
Practicing Easy Fish Pose daily can offer numerous health benefits. In today’s fast-paced and stressful lifestyle, many individuals suffer from digestive issues like gas, indigestion, and constipation. Additionally, complaints related to breathing difficulties, asthma, and bronchitis have become increasingly common. Many people also experience back pain, cervical spondylitis, and ongoing neck stiffness.
According to the Ministry of AYUSH, Easy Fish Pose can be highly effective in tackling these problems. This asana stretches the abdominal organs, enhancing digestion and alleviating stomach-related issues. By opening up the chest area, it improves lung capacity and respiratory function. The stretching around the neck helps keep the thyroid gland active, while relaxing the muscles in the back and neck provides relief from chronic stiffness and pain.
Easy Fish Pose can be performed at home without any equipment. Regular practice can contribute to healthy aging and help prevent various ailments.
To practice Easy Fish Pose, lie on your back. Place both hands beneath your body with palms facing down. Keeping your elbows in, gently lift your chest upwards and tilt your head back so that the top of your head touches the floor. Maintain normal breathing throughout. Beginners can hold this pose for 15-30 seconds, gradually increasing the duration.
Yoga experts emphasize that yoga poses not only promote physical health but also provide mental peace. This asana can be performed on an empty stomach in the morning or in the evening. Individuals with serious back or neck injuries, hernias, or those who have recently undergone surgery should consult a yoga specialist before practicing.
