Ashwini Choubey Calls for High-Level Inquiry into Bharat Tiwari Encounter Controversy

Patna, June 23: Former Union Minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey has made a strong statement regarding the Bharat Bhushan Tiwari encounter controversy, demanding a high-level and impartial investigation. He described the incident as extremely unfortunate, painful, and heartbreaking, asserting that Bharat Bhushan Tiwari was an innocent individual who dedicated his life to fighting for the rights of the poor, marginalized communities, Scheduled Castes, land-displaced individuals, and flood victims.

Choubey stated that there had never been any serious criminal case registered against Bharat Bhushan Tiwari. He claimed that Tiwari was a voice for the weaker sections of society and lost his life during this struggle. Choubey emphasized that Tiwari was fighting for the rights of the poor and sacrificed his life while advocating for flood victims, landless individuals, and marginalized groups.

Choubey mentioned that he had spoken to the concerned Superintendent of Police (SP) regarding this matter. The SP informed him that Bharat Tiwari was not mentally disturbed but was under constant stress due to the lack of attention to his demands and issues. Choubey alleged that the police treated Tiwari as if he were a major criminal, a Maoist, or a dacoit. He noted that police forces were frequently sent to Tiwari’s home, increasing mental pressure on him and his family. Tiwari’s father had served honorably as a constable in the police department and had retired with respect. However, the manner in which police arrived at their home caused distress and anxiety for the family.

He claimed that on the day of the incident, Bharat Tiwari had left home to install a hand pump in a poor locality. He alleged that Tiwari had surrendered, yet was brutally killed. Choubey insisted that an FIR should be filed against the police officer who fired the shot, and that the officer should be arrested and jailed, with their weapon confiscated for legal proceedings.

Choubey further stated that the truth must come to light. The investigative committee should reveal all facts, and those responsible must be punished, ensuring justice for the poor. He vowed that Bharat Tiwari’s blood would not be shed in vain.

The former minister reiterated his commitment to fighting against corruption, crime, and atrocities against the poor. He recalled various movements and shootings in Bihar, stating that he has always stood up whenever injustice occurred against any community. From the time of the united Bihar-Jharkhand state to the present, he has fought for the rights of all communities and will continue to do so in the future.

In response to remarks made by Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary regarding Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Lalu Prasad Yadav, Choubey said that if the Chief Minister made such comments, there must be a political context behind them. He questioned what Lalu Yadav was afraid of, noting that Yadav is currently unwell and undergoing treatment, and should focus on his health. While politics has its place, he emphasized that dharma in governance must be upheld.

He concluded by reflecting on a time when many feared Lalu Yadav’s political influence. Although Yadav is now ill, his political impact cannot be entirely disregarded.
