Lucknow, October 7 (Daily Kiran) : The government in Lucknow is accelerating relief and rescue operations in areas affected by the rising water levels of the Gomti River. Under the directives of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Municipal Commissioner Gaurav Kumar inspected flood-affected regions throughout Wednesday. He visited various localities, including Saitha in Zone-6 and Loharamau, Faizullaganj, Daud Nagar, and Millat Nagar in Zone-3, instructing officials to prioritize the safety of impacted citizens.
Kumar reviewed the situation concerning flooding, the operation of boats, drinking water supply, sanitation, fogging, anti-larvae spraying, and relief facilities. Approximately 20 water tankers have been deployed, alongside 10,000 liters of packaged drinking water. Twelve temporary shelters have been established for families affected by the flooding, with ten in Daud Nagar and one each in Loharamau and Millat Nagar. Additionally, around 35 families in Zone-6 have been relocated to safer areas, with 26 individuals currently residing in the shelters. Permanent shelters with a capacity of 100 beds each have also been set up behind Paltan Chawani, Umra Hata, and the engineering college.
The temporary shelters are equipped with beds, folding furniture, fans, coolers, lighting, and 12 charging points for mobile devices. The district administration has deployed 90 boats to assist in relief efforts across the affected areas. Municipal teams are aiding in the loading, unloading, and distribution of relief materials. In Daud Nagar, 25 staff members are working in two shifts, with similar teams in Loharamau and Millat Nagar.
Operations to transport people and deliver relief supplies continue using boats and steamers in various localities, including Saitha, Daulat Khera, Munna Khera, Tand Khera, Sukhlal Khera, Gulmi Khera, and Hayatganj. A boat stationed behind Laxmi Hospital is specifically designated for distributing relief materials. To maintain hygiene and prevent disease, around 250 sanitation workers are actively cleaning from Yadav Chauraha to Mama Colony. Bleaching powder is being sprayed in the affected areas, while drone technology has been utilized to spray MLO and anti-larvae solutions over approximately 150 acres.
During his inspection, Kumar also assessed the temporary storage center established at Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti University, ensuring that relief materials and necessary resources are well-organized and delivered promptly to the affected areas.
The Municipal Commissioner emphasized the need for readiness to address the aftermath once water levels recede. He instructed that separate teams be assigned for each affected area, which will focus on clearing mud, waste, and debris from roads and neighborhoods, as well as spraying bleaching powder, anti-larvae, and essential medications. This initiative aims to control the potential spread of infectious and mosquito-borne diseases following the flooding.
