Lucknow, October 8 (Daily Kiran) : Senior Samajwadi Party leader Ravidas Mehrotra has thrown down the gauntlet to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, challenging him to contest the upcoming assembly elections from Ayodhya. Speaking in Lucknow, Mehrotra asserted that if Adityanath chooses to run from Ayodhya, he would likely forfeit his bail.
Mehrotra’s comments come in support of Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav, who recently visited Ayodhya to participate in a Bhagwat Katha. During his visit, Yadav questioned why Adityanath, if confident about electoral success, would not contest from the city.
The Samajwadi leader emphasized that Yadav’s challenge aims to reveal the extent of public anger towards the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He stated that if the Chief Minister runs from Ayodhya, it would be a clear indication of the BJP’s declining support.
Addressing allegations from BJP leaders, Mehrotra clarified that Yadav attended the religious event at the invitation of organizers. He reinforced that the Samajwadi Party respects all religions, contrasting the BJP’s approach of soliciting votes in the name of Lord Ram while engaging in corrupt practices.
Mehrotra also criticized Adityanath’s administration for allegedly misleading the public on critical issues. He pointed out rising inflation, unemployment, and crime rates, alongside stalled development projects and deteriorating healthcare services. He remarked that no one in the government seems willing to address these pressing concerns.
Additionally, Mehrotra commented on the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, stating that the Samajwadi Party is actively protesting across Uttar Pradesh. Under Yadav’s directive, party leaders in Lucknow have also voiced their demands for the CEC’s immediate resignation.
