Belagavi, March 13: The renowned Shri Renuka Yellamma Temple in northwestern Karnataka has witnessed an astonishing donation collection of ₹3.07 crore this year. The counting of donations began last week and concluded this week. Notably, the amount of gold and silver jewelry offered by devotees far exceeded the cash donations.
The donation counting at Shri Renuka Yellamma Temple started on March 9 and continued until March 12. During this period, the total donations reached ₹3.07 crore, which included ₹2.78 crore in cash, jewelry worth ₹16.16 lakh (100 grams of gold), and silver ornaments valued at ₹12.35 lakh (4 kilograms and 547 grams). The counting was conducted discreetly by temple staff and students under the supervision of the temple administration.
Shri Renuka Yellamma is revered as the mother of Lord Parashurama, the sixth avatar of Lord Vishnu, and attracts devotees not only from across the country but also from abroad seeking her blessings. She is affectionately called Yellamma, the nurturer of the universe.
The temple was constructed in 1514 by King Bomappa of Raibag and is a splendid example of South Indian architecture, showcasing elements from the Chalukya, Rashtrakuta, and Dravidian styles. The temple features intricate carvings on its walls and houses a sacred water source, believed to alleviate physical and mental ailments. Devotees often take this holy water home with them.
The idol of the goddess in the sanctum is considered self-manifested, with her hands raised without any weapon, seemingly bestowing blessings upon her devotees. A religious fair is held in December to please the goddess, attracting millions of devotees, including many from overseas.
