Record 17.8 Million Travelers Enter and Exit China During 2026 Lunar New Year Holidays

Beijing, February 24: According to a report from China’s National Immigration Administration, a staggering 17.8 million travelers, both Chinese and foreign, entered and exited China during the 2026 Lunar New Year holidays. This marks a daily average of 1.977 million travelers, reflecting a 10.1% increase compared to the same period last year.

The peak travel day occurred on February 21, when 2.259 million people traveled to and from China.

Of this total, 9.514 million were citizens of mainland China, showing a 10.2% rise from the previous year. Meanwhile, residents from Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan accounted for 6.969 million travelers, an increase of 8% compared to last year.

Additionally, the number of foreign travelers entering and exiting China reached 1.313 million, which is a remarkable 21.8% increase from the same period last year. Notably, 460,000 of these foreign visitors benefited from China’s visa-free entry policy, a 28.5% rise compared to the previous year.

The total number of inbound and outbound transport vehicles, including ships, trains, and cars, reached 705,000, marking a 19.4% increase from last year.
