Mumbai, September 17 (Daily Kiran) : Actress Rasika Dugal recently appeared on Neha Dhupia and Angad Bedi’s show “Double Date,” where she opened up about her career journey, struggles, marriage, and college days. During the episode, Dhupia praised Dugal’s body of work, stating, “Rasika, you have become a genre in yourself, and that’s remarkable.”
Reflecting on her career, Dugal shared the moment she realized she had carved out a place for herself in the industry. When asked when she truly felt part of the film world, she recalled a period when her work began to gain consistency.
Dugal noted, “It was around 2016-17 when my work started becoming more consistent. I graduated from FTII in 2006, so it took a full decade for that to happen. There were projects in between that gave me encouragement, but they weren’t as widely recognized as my work after 2016.”
She reminisced about earlier films like “Kissa” and “Kshay,” which allowed her to work with some of the finest talents in the industry. However, she emphasized that a significant change occurred post-2016, with a surge in project opportunities.
“After 2016, I started receiving offers for projects like ‘Manto,’ ‘Mirzapur,’ and ‘Delhi Crime.’ The rise of OTT platforms played a crucial role in this change. It felt like a movement,” she explained.
Dugal’s latest release is “Mirzapur: The Movie,” where she portrays Beena Tripathi, the wife of Kaleen Bhaiya and the stepmother of Munna. Unlike a new season of the “Mirzapur” web series, this film presents a fresh narrative on a larger canvas, featuring new characters not seen in the series.
The movie addresses several unresolved questions regarding Munna Bhaiya and Kaleen Bhaiya’s behaviors while also delving into the backstories of the characters. Produced under the banners of Amazon MGM Studios and Excel Entertainment, the film is directed by Gurmeet Singh, with a story penned by Puneet Krishna. Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar are among the producers, with Kasim Jagmagiya and Vishal Ramchandani as co-producers.
“Mirzapur: The Movie” features returning characters played by Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Shweta Tripathi, Rasika Dugal, and Divyendu Sharma, alongside significant roles for Jitendra Kumar, Sonal Chauhan, and Ravi Kishan.
