Mumbai, October 10 (Daily Kiran) : Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed all government departments in Maharashtra to work together strategically to address the state’s drought situation. Speaking on Saturday, he emphasized the need for coordinated efforts and swift action.
Fadnavis highlighted the principles of “Pani Adv, Pani Jirva” (Water Conservation, Water Reuse) and urged administrative officials to effectively implement water conservation initiatives to capture every drop of rainwater. He instructed district collectors, chief executive officers (CEOs), and field officers to actively collaborate with non-governmental organizations like the Water Foundation to enhance inter-departmental coordination.
These remarks came during a high-level review meeting focused on water conservation, held ahead of this year’s Water Cup competition. The Chief Minister stressed that overcoming the challenges posed by drought requires a united effort from all administrative departments.
He stated, “In the past, our administration has demonstrated exemplary leadership and efficiency during significant campaigns, including those led by district collectors and agriculture department officials. We have seen how the administrative framework can transform ground realities when working with enthusiasm and responsibility. We must bring that same dedication and readiness to our water conservation efforts.”
Fadnavis called for the development of a coordinated action plan based on the principles discussed in the meeting. He urged the use of modern technology to establish a robust monitoring system that tracks project progress in real-time, ensuring close coordination among various departments to prevent delays and optimize resource allocation.
He stressed that water conservation plans should yield tangible results rather than remain on paper. Projects must be time-bound to ensure that water harvesting structures are ready before the first rains, maximizing groundwater recharge.
“Through effective implementation, we can take significant steps towards making our villages completely drought-free, providing substantial relief to our citizens,” he added.
Notable actor and co-founder of the Water Foundation, Aamir Khan, addressed the gathering, emphasizing the importance of year-round active participation and community involvement. He announced that training and awareness programs for farmers would be conducted from January to May, gearing up for water conservation ahead of the monsoon.
Khan remarked, “While there are challenges this year, we must remain optimistic and turn despair into hope. It is essential that every family in each village actively participates in this campaign, focusing on water recycling, groundwater recharge, and maintaining structures.”
