Faridkot, August 31: The political controversy surrounding the alleged ‘purification’ incident following Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s event in Haldwani, Uttarakhand, continues to escalate. Congress leader Sudhir Chaudhary and Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Arvind Sawant have criticized the BJP and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), labeling their actions as contrary to social equality and the spirit of the Constitution.
In Faridkot, Sudhir Chaudhary accused the RSS and BJP of attempting to re-establish a Manusmriti-based social order. He stated that Dr. B.R. Ambedkar liberated the country from such a social system, but there are now efforts to revive that same mindset.
Chaudhary claimed that the incident of alleged purification following Kharge’s visit and speech reflects a mentality of untouchability. He emphasized that Congress is taking this issue seriously and will not accept it under any circumstances.
He announced that protests will be held across Punjab regarding this matter. Chaudhary stated that Congress’s opposition will continue until an FIR is filed. He also mentioned that demonstrations will be organized outside the state Congress headquarters in Chandigarh, demanding action against those involved.
The Congress leader expressed concern that such incidents in the 21st century threaten social harmony and brotherhood. He noted that similar events have occurred repeatedly, revealing a specific mindset.
Meanwhile, in Amaravati, Shiv Sena MP Arvind Sawant also targeted the BJP and RSS over this controversy. He remarked that washing a public place after a leader’s visit sends a message of caste discrimination. Sawant questioned whether it is appropriate to judge a person based on their caste.
He reiterated that the Indian Constitution guarantees the right to equality, and discrimination based on caste, religion, or creed is unacceptable. Sawant accused the BJP of promoting a divisive mindset in society.
Referring to a recent statement by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, Sawant emphasized the need to strengthen social harmony and constitutional values in the country. He urged leaders to convey messages that unite society.
