Jaipur, December 9: Rajasthan is set to experience a severe cold wave as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for cold wave conditions in five districts – Sikar, Churu, Jhunjhunu, Didwana-Kuchaman, and Nagaur.

The state has already been feeling the chill, and the weather department has warned that temperatures could drop further in the next 48 hours.

In the last 24 hours, Fatehpur recorded a low of 3.7 degrees Celsius, making it one of the coldest places in eastern Rajasthan, while Nagaur in the west saw temperatures fall to 4.3 degrees Celsius.

IMD officials noted that a cloud cover over Shekhawati has somewhat reduced the impact of icy winds in recent days, but this relief is temporary. From December 10 onwards, with clearing skies, the cold wave is expected to intensify, pushing minimum temperatures even lower in the alert areas.

Between December 10 and 14, Rajasthan will experience clear skies and dry weather, with strong cold in the mornings and nights despite sunshine during the day. On Monday morning, light fog was observed in Sikar, and strong winds made the early hours very cold.

Although bright sunlight provided some relief later, the IMD cautioned that the cold spell is far from over, with minimum temperatures likely to drop further on December 10 and 11.

The Hadoti region of Rajasthan saw fluctuating weather on Monday, with sunshine during the day and cold winds at night.

Meteorologists said similar weather is expected throughout the week, with minor temperature variations but no significant relief from the cold. As the cold intensifies, the health department has advised caution, especially for children, the elderly, and those with chronic illnesses.

Officials have urged people to wear warm clothes during mornings and evenings and take preventive measures against seasonal illnesses caused by temperature changes.
