Raj Thackeray Criticizes Maharashtra Governments Indifference on Maharashtra Day Celebrations

Mumbai, May 1: Raj Thackeray, the leader of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), has accused the state government of adopting a half-hearted approach towards the Maharashtra Day celebrations. After Chief Minister paid tribute at the Hutatma Chowk, Thackeray also visited the site to honor the martyrs of the united Maharashtra movement.

Upon returning from Hutatma Chowk, Thackeray expressed his dissatisfaction on social media, stating that the state government treats Maharashtra Day merely as a formality. He has been troubled for years by the government’s attitude, which he believes reduces the celebration of Maharashtra Day to a mere bureaucratic obligation rather than a festival of pride for the state.

Thackeray pointed out that the Hutatma Smarak in Mumbai was not properly decorated, highlighting the evident government apathy towards the entire event. He questioned whether the state government was avoiding large-scale celebrations of Maharashtra Day to prevent displeasing central leaders. Thackeray sarcastically asked if the government feared that a grand celebration would upset prominent leaders in Delhi.

He further alleged that if it were a program for another community or a special event, the streets would be adorned with carpets and lights. However, the day associated with Maharashtra and Marathi identity is being celebrated with sadness.

Thackeray also raised concerns about whether there is an attempt to distance Marathi people from the significance of the Hutatma Smarak. He expressed worry over both the government’s and the public’s indifference.

He emphasized that the Hutatma Smarak should be regarded as a pilgrimage site for every citizen of the state. Thackeray noted that Marathi people have built and fought for Mumbai, yet they are increasingly distancing themselves from their history.

In a heartfelt appeal to the Marathi community, he urged, “I request you to not forget the struggle of the united Maharashtra movement. The tall buildings you see in Mumbai exist because this city remained a part of Maharashtra. Take pride in it.”

Thackeray concluded his message by urging the Marathi people of Mumbai and across Maharashtra to gather in large numbers at the Hutatma Smarak next year on May 1, compelling the government to give the day its due respect.
