Rain Brings Relief to Delhi-NCR Amidst Scorching Heat

New Delhi, May 28: Residents of Delhi-NCR experienced a welcome respite from the sweltering heat on Thursday evening. A sudden storm, accompanied by thunder and light to moderate rainfall, transformed the weather across the capital and its surrounding areas. Following the rain, temperatures dropped significantly, allowing people to enjoy the cool breezes after a long time.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had predicted light rain, thunder, and strong winds for the evening and night in Delhi-NCR. According to the weather department, wind speeds reached 60 to 70 kilometers per hour in several locations, with some areas experiencing gusts of up to 80 kilometers per hour. There were also indications of hail in various spots.

For several days, temperatures in Delhi-NCR had soared above 44 degrees Celsius, causing considerable discomfort among the populace. The unexpected rainfall brought much-needed relief and made the weather more pleasant.

The IMD attributed this change to the influence of a western disturbance and the cyclonic circulation of upper air currents. Heavy rain accompanied by thunder was reported in many parts of Delhi, with dust-laden winds also making their presence felt.

Light to moderate rainfall was recorded not only in various parts of Delhi but also in Gurugram, Noida, Ghaziabad, and Faridabad. Following the rain, there was a rapid decrease in temperature, and air quality showed signs of improvement.

On Thursday, daytime temperatures ranged between 40 to 42 degrees Celsius, but a drop was noted after the evening rain.

The IMD forecasts that maximum temperatures will range from 34 to 37 degrees Celsius on Friday and between 34 to 36 degrees Celsius on Saturday. Minimum temperatures are expected to reach between 22 to 25 degrees Celsius, further enhancing the pleasant weather.

However, due to the strong winds and the possibility of lightning, the weather department has advised residents to remain vigilant. They warned that high winds could affect trees, power lines, and weak structures. People are urged to stay indoors during adverse weather, avoid standing under trees, and unplug electrical devices.

The weather department indicates that these activities signal the advancement of the southwest monsoon. Light to moderate rain and thunder may continue in Delhi-NCR for the next three to four days.

Local authorities have also advised residents to be cautious in flood-prone areas and to adhere to traffic advisories.
