Assam Attracts Over ₹5 Lakh Crore in Investment Proposals: Dilip Saikia

Guwahati, June 25: Assam has emerged as one of the fastest-growing economies in India, attracting investment proposals exceeding ₹5 lakh crore, according to state BJP chief and Lok Sabha MP Dilip Saikia. Speaking during a pre-budget discussion organized by the party, Saikia highlighted the state’s transformation into a hub for industry and innovation.

In discussions with economists, academics, entrepreneurs, and industry representatives, Saikia noted that under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s leadership, the state has experienced “extraordinary changes” in its economy from 2014-15 to 2024-25.

He emphasized that Assam’s development journey reflects continuous progress, improved governance, and increasing economic opportunities. Saikia also mentioned that the state’s growth significantly contributes to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed India.

The state is rapidly advancing towards becoming one of the leading states in the country. Saikia credited the government for creating a favorable environment for investment and economic expansion while addressing long-standing developmental challenges.

During the main address, State Finance Minister Jayant Mallabarua stated that the government is committed to preparing a practical, people-centric, and development-oriented budget. He welcomed suggestions from stakeholders across all sectors.

Mallabarua reported significant improvements in budget allocation implementation, with a completion rate nearing 90%. He stressed the government’s goal of ensuring complete and effective use of public expenditure.

He noted that Assam is currently receiving special attention from the central government, citing Prime Minister Modi’s frequent visits as evidence of the state’s growing strategic importance.

Recalling the changing investment landscape in Assam, the minister remarked that there was a time when even small investments faced challenges. However, the state has now successfully attracted investment proposals exceeding ₹5 lakh crore.

He also pointed to the emergence of a semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem in the state, indicating that after establishing one semiconductor facility, two more units are expected to follow, further strengthening Assam’s position in advanced manufacturing.

During the discussions, participants suggested increased support for the MSME sector, promotion of the ‘Make in Assam’ initiative, greater use of bamboo and cane products in government projects, improvements to university infrastructure, and insurance support for small poultry farmers.

The event saw participation from cabinet ministers, MPs, representatives from financial institutions, business leaders, academics, sports administrators, and industry stakeholders from across Assam.
