Jaipur, September 1 (Kiran News). Continuous rainfall has begun to disrupt normal life in several parts of Rajasthan. The Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rain alert for 27 districts on Monday. Due to the seriousness of the situation, schools have been closed in Jodhpur, Jhunjhunu, and Tonk districts.

Rain Alert

The impact of the rain is being felt most in eastern and western Rajasthan. Jaipur, Hanumangarh, Sri Ganganagar, Sawai Madhopur, and Dausa experienced heavy rainfall throughout Sunday, while up to five inches of rain was recorded in Jhalawar, Jalore, Karauli, Sikar, and Alwar. In Hanumangarh, fears of flooding led several departments, including health, to cancel staff leaves. Here, a house and part of a fort wall collapsed, and an e-rickshaw sank into a pothole on the road.

In Sikar, water reached up to one and a half feet on the roads. In Sawai Madhopur, a lightning strike at a house caused a TV explosion, resulting in the death of a girl and injuries to seven people. In Rawatbhata (Chittorgarh), lightning also claimed the life of a young man. In Sirohi, five youths went bathing in a river; four were rescued, but one was swept away. In Dausa’s Lalsot town, a youth was swept away while performing a stunt, but was safely rescued after some time. In Sikandra area, a woman and a girl were injured due to lightning.

Jodhpur’s Tinwari area has seen continuous rain since Sunday night, forcing school closures. Low-lying areas were flooded, with water entering homes in several colonies. Ajmer also witnessed intermittent heavy and light rain from Sunday night into Monday morning, affecting city traffic. However, the rainfall brought down temperatures, making the weather pleasant. The rain has also impacted agriculture, with Kharif crops like groundnut, cotton, and chilli suffering from waterlogging and excessive rainfall.

Several districts recorded heavy rainfall in the last 24 hours:

  • Raipur (Jhalawar): 140 mm

  • Gangadhar: 115 mm

  • Dag: 63 mm

  • Todabhim (Karauli): 101 mm

  • Karauli city: 72 mm

  • Pilani (Jhunjhunu): 49 mm

  • Patan (Sikar): 95 mm

  • Thanagaji (Alwar): 85 mm

  • Jalore: 126 mm

Heavy rain was also reported in Mohangarh (Jaisalmer), Lunkaransar (Bikaner), Baran, Pratapgarh, Banswara, and Bundi.

Weather experts predict that the first week of September will continue to see heavy rainfall, especially in eastern Rajasthan’s Alwar, Bharatpur, Jhunjhunu, Sikar, and Jaipur, which may receive above-normal rain. The department has issued a yellow alert and appealed to people to remain cautious.
