New Delhi, August 17: Sending money to India has become easier for Indian residents in Qatar. Qatar Post has launched a remittance service powered by UPI, allowing direct transfers to eligible bank accounts in India.
The UPI-based remittance service is now available through Qatar Post outlets. Customers can send money directly to UPI-enabled bank accounts in India via these outlets. This service was developed through collaboration between Qatar Post, India Post, the Universal Postal Union’s interconnection platform (UPU-IP), and NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL).
This initiative connects the extensive postal network with India’s digital public infrastructure, providing an efficient and convenient means for cross-border remittances. The service was inaugurated on August 15, 2026, coinciding with India’s Independence Day. On this occasion, Sandeep Kumar, the acting ambassador of India in Qatar, visited the Qatar Post outlet at Lulu Mall in Doha and engaged with stakeholders. The event highlighted the significance of this initiative in strengthening digital financial connectivity and bilateral cooperation between India and Qatar.
Under this service, customers can initiate remittances at any Qatar Post outlet. They will need to provide the recipient’s UPI ID and necessary identification details. The recipient must also activate the facility to receive funds from abroad through their UPI app.
Once activated, the transferred amount will be deposited instantly into the beneficiary’s UPI-enabled bank account. Transactions can range from QAR 10 to QAR 4,000, with a maximum limit of ₹100,000 per transaction.
A flat service fee of QAR 15 will apply to each transaction. This service is particularly significant for the Indian community residing in Qatar, offering a reliable, accessible, and affordable way to send money to families in India. By integrating the postal network’s reach with UPI’s capabilities, this initiative promotes greater financial inclusion and seamless digital financial connectivity between the two countries.
