Purple Fest Celebrates Abilities of Persons with Disabilities at Rashtrapati Bhavan

New Delhi, March 14: The ‘Purple Fest’ was held at Rashtrapati Bhavan on March 13 to celebrate the talents, achievements, and aspirations of persons with disabilities. Over 8,000 individuals participated in the event, which featured a special tour of Amrit Udyan, opened exclusively for them.

Attendees engaged in various entertaining games and learning activities organized by different organizations dedicated to supporting persons with disabilities.

In the evening, President Droupadi Murmu attended the ceremony and enjoyed cultural performances presented by the participants on the open stage of Rashtrapati Bhavan.

During her address, the President emphasized that the identity of any country or society is defined not just by the achievements of its privileged classes but also by its sensitivity towards marginalized groups. A glance at Indian history reveals that sensitivity, inclusivity, and harmony have been core elements of our culture and civilization. The Constitution of India provides us with ideal social standards, establishing the principles of social justice, equality, and human dignity. The Directive Principles of State Policy grant persons with disabilities the right to education, employment, and public assistance.

The President highlighted that empowering persons with disabilities is crucial for building an inclusive society. However, this cannot be achieved solely through government efforts; active participation from every individual and institution in society is essential.

She stated that we are rapidly progressing towards the collective goal of a ‘Developed India’ by 2047, and persons with disabilities are equal partners in this journey. It is the duty of every member of society to ensure they are given equal opportunities and respect to thrive.

The President encouraged persons with disabilities to move forward with confidence, assuring them of full support from the government and society. She noted that their dedication, hard work, and perseverance would not only pave the way for their success but also serve as an inspiration for other citizens.

The ‘Purple Fest,’ organized by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, aims to raise awareness about various physical disabilities and their impact on individuals’ lives while promoting understanding, acceptance, and inclusion of persons with disabilities in society.
