Ranchi, September 22 (Daily Kiran) : As Jharkhand marks the vibrant Karam Festival, prominent leaders including President Droupadi Murmu and Chief Minister Hemant Soren have extended their heartfelt greetings. Celebrated as one of the state’s most significant folk festivals, Karam signifies gratitude towards nature, the reverence for good harvests, and the unbreakable bond between siblings.
President Murmu conveyed her wishes, stating, “I extend my warm greetings to all countrymen on the occasion of Karam Puja. This festival, which embodies gratitude towards nature, dedication to hard work, and a spirit of brotherhood, is a vivid expression of our rich tribal culture and values. May this Karam Puja bring joy and prosperity to everyone.”
In a post on X, Chief Minister Soren shared, “Best wishes and greetings to all on the grand festival of nature, Karam. This festival, symbolizing the deep connection between nature and human life, as well as social unity and our rich traditions, is deeply intertwined with Jharkhand’s identity and lifestyle.” He emphasized that Karam inspires respect for nature and its preservation, reminding us that water, forests, and land are not just the basis of life but also our cultural heritage for future generations.
Soren further noted that Karam is also a celebration of the sacred affection and mutual trust between siblings. The rituals, including the establishment of the Karam branch in the akhara, the rhythm of the mandir, Karam songs, and communal dances, beautifully express our vibrant folk culture. He urged that even as we advance in modernity, we must strengthen our ties with our language, culture, and nature.
Kalpana Soren, the Chief Minister’s wife and a member of the Gandey Legislative Assembly, also shared her wishes on X, stating, “Heartfelt wishes and greetings to all on the nature festival Karam. This festival symbolizes our deep connection with our rich culture, traditions, and nature. From the unbreakable love between siblings to societal unity, Karam connects us to our roots.” She highlighted that the worship of the Karam branch in the akhara, the mandir’s rhythm, and communal dances are a recognition of our invaluable ancestral heritage, conveying a message of respect for water, forests, and land.
Jharkhand Governor Santosh Gangwar added, “On the auspicious occasion of the nature festival Karam Puja, I extend my best wishes to all residents of Jharkhand. Karam Puja is a celebration of nature, culture, and community unity. I wish that this festival brings happiness, peace, prosperity, and well-being to all.”
The Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs also posted on X, noting that the Karam Festival brings together nature, devotion, and community through the sacred Karam tree, traditional songs, and dance. Associated with strength, youth, and vitality, this festival is celebrated on the 11th day of the lunar month of Bhadon and is linked to agriculture. It showcases a lively tradition of tree worship, music, and dance, with its roots firmly planted in Jharkhand.
