Chandigarh, May 15: Punjab Minister Aman Arora sharply criticized the central government on Friday for the continuous rise in fuel prices and inflation. He stated that the BJP-led government has benefited a handful of corporate houses while pushing common people, farmers, and small businesses into economic turmoil.
Speaking to reporters, Cabinet Minister Arora remarked, “The entire nation is witnessing the troubles caused by rising inflation, despite the grand promises made by PM Modi before coming to power 12 years ago.”
He added, “Once again, the BJP government has placed the burden of rising fuel prices and inflation on the shoulders of ordinary citizens, farmers, and small businesses. The country is observing how people are suffering from inflation, despite the big promises made by PM Modi before he assumed office.”
Referring to the increase in fuel and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices, Arora noted, “Immediately after the West Bengal elections, the central government raised the price of commercial LPG cylinders by ₹943, delivering a severe blow to small businesses and traders.”
He continued, “Additionally, the government has increased petrol prices by ₹3.14 per liter, diesel by ₹3.11 per liter, and compressed natural gas (CNG) prices by ₹2. This is an embarrassing gift for the people of the country.”
Arora criticized the BJP for only remembering “public welfare during elections, but after securing votes, they impose economic burdens on the people.”
He stated, “The BJP talks about public welfare during elections, but once they win votes, they start siphoning off the hard-earned money of the people. This price hike is solely aimed at benefiting a select few corporate houses close to the ruling party.”
Targeting the BJP’s election promises, he mentioned that the party had pledged to deposit ₹15 lakh in every citizen’s bank account, create two crore jobs, and double farmers’ incomes.
He concluded, “Instead of doubling farmers’ incomes, the BJP government has continuously increased the economic burden on them through inflation and rising fuel prices.”
Highlighting the impact on the state’s agricultural sector, the Aam Aadmi Party president pointed out that the rise in diesel prices directly affects agricultural activities during the paddy sowing season.
He further stated, “During the paddy sowing season, farmers require thousands of liters of water and fuel for irrigation. The increase in diesel prices will directly impact their agricultural work and increase their economic burden.”
