Beijing, September 13 (Daily Kiran) : Chinese President Xi Jinping addressed the leaders of BRICS nations during the first phase of their 18th summit in New Delhi on September 12. His speech, titled “Share the Responsibilities of the Era, Have the Courage to Become Leading Powers,” highlighted the journey of BRICS cooperation over the past 20 years.
Xi reflected on the remarkable journey of self-reliance, mutual support, and shared achievements among BRICS nations. He proposed the concept of becoming the “Four Leading Powers,” which aims to clarify the future direction of the cooperative framework. He underscored the need for stability and trust in a world undergoing rapid changes and challenges. This year marks the 20th anniversary of BRICS cooperation. Encouraging open-source collaboration, strengthening industrial and supply chains, and ensuring shared benefits from innovation are also essential.
In terms of peace and stability, leading means adhering to the concept of comprehensive, cooperative, and sustainable security. This includes opposing Cold War mindsets, non-interference in other nations’ internal affairs, and playing a constructive role in resolving regional conflicts.
Promoting cultural exchanges through initiatives like the BRICS Cultural Exchange Platform will enhance mutual understanding among diverse civilizations. Additionally, leading global governance improvements involves reinforcing the United Nations’ authority, protecting multilateral trade systems, and participating actively in new governance areas such as cyberspace and outer space.
Next year, China will assume the presidency of BRICS and host the 19th summit. As BRICS approaches this historical milestone, a united effort towards becoming the “Four Leading Powers” could mark the successful start of the bloc’s third “golden decade” and strengthen its role in fostering a shared future for humanity.
