Punjab Governor Advocates Eco-Friendly Travel with E-Bus Initiative

Chandigarh, May 20: Amid global crises, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for fuel conservation has sparked initiatives across the country. In line with this movement, Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria arrived at a railway event today using an electric bus. He emphasized the need for collective efforts to ensure the nation’s progress continues unabated.

Governor Kataria has launched a ‘No Car Day’ initiative every Wednesday. As part of this initiative, he traveled to official events using the Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) electric bus and a golf cart.

Speaking to reporters, Governor Kataria stated, “If anyone wants to start a new initiative, those in high positions should lead by example. It gives us moral strength when we ask the public to follow suit, making it easier for them to adopt such practices. We have initiated this in our union territory.”

He further mentioned, “Next time, we will encourage school and college students to walk or cycle to school on Wednesdays and use public transport.”

The Governor highlighted that if even one student saves a liter of petrol or diesel in a month, it can lead to significant fuel conservation nationwide. He stressed that everyone must work together to keep the nation’s momentum going.

Governor Kataria also announced that he would use public transportation for all his engagements every Wednesday. He urged officials to abandon their personal vehicles in favor of government transport. If that is not feasible, they should consider cycling or walking.

On Wednesday, Governor Kataria, alongside Union Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu, laid the foundation stone for the ‘Baltana Road Under Bridge’ on the Ambala-Chandigarh rail segment. This project, developed with the support of the Chandigarh administration at a cost of ₹12.80 crore, aims to reduce traffic congestion and ensure safer and more accessible connectivity for Baltana and surrounding areas.
