Punjab Government Misleading Court on DA Issue, Claims Ashwini Sharma

Chandigarh, October 5 (Daily Kiran) : Ashwini Sharma, the former president of the Punjab Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and MLA from Pathankot, accused the Punjab government on Monday of misleading the court concerning the Dearness Allowance (DA) issue. He stated that the government is deceiving millions of government employees.

The Punjab BJP strongly condemned the government’s approach to this matter. Sharma emphasized that the BJP stands with the employees and supports their upcoming rally in Sangrur on October 10.

He alleged that instead of disbursing the rightful dues to employees, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government is deliberately entangling the issue in legal proceedings.

Referring to the hearing on Monday, Sharma noted that the High Court questioned Punjab’s Principal Secretary, K.P. Sinha, who appeared in court. The inquiry was related to the compliance affidavit regarding the court’s order to release the DA within 15 days, issued on August 3.

According to Sharma, when the Punjab government informed the court that it had filed a Special Leave Petition (SLP) in the Supreme Court, the court questioned why no action was taken to rectify the deficiencies within the petition.

He pointed out that during the previous hearing, the Punjab government was instructed to address the shortcomings of the SLP but failed to do so.

Sharma mentioned that the court has requested the complete record from the Supreme Court to ascertain the status of the government’s actions in this case.

The court also directed the Punjab Chief Secretary to appear again and submit a response. Additionally, it inquired why contempt proceedings against the government should not be initiated.

Sharma reiterated that the Punjab government has consistently attempted to mislead the court, but such tactics will no longer work. He reaffirmed the BJP’s unwavering support for the employees’ struggle and its backing for the rally in Sangrur.
