New Delhi, October 6 (Daily Kiran) : Union Minister Kiren Rijiju has called on the Congress party and its leader Rahul Gandhi to stop their ongoing criticism of the Election Commission and the Supreme Court. Speaking in New Delhi, Rijiju emphasized that since 2014, Congress has been engaged in a continuous cycle of questioning constitutional institutions. He urged the party to end this alleged drama and instead focus on serving the public.
Rijiju pointed out that the daily accusations against the Election Commission and Supreme Court must come to an end. He questioned how long this pattern of behavior would persist. He stated that in a democracy, public service is rewarded with a mandate. When Congress fails to secure a mandate, it blames the Election Commission and questions the integrity of constitutional bodies. He warned that persistent attacks on the Election Commission and distrust in the Supreme Court would not strengthen democracy nor aid Congress’s political resurgence.
The minister advised Rahul Gandhi to take a page from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP workers, who serve society and the nation rather than pursuing personal agendas. Rijiju suggested that Gandhi should engage more with the public rather than relying solely on political accusations and social media narratives. He asserted that if Congress actively works among the people, it could regain their trust, but mere protests and allegations would not garner public support.
Reflecting on Congress’s long tenure in power, Rijiju noted that the party governed for 55 years, during which a state of emergency was declared and changes were made to the Constitution’s preamble. He urged Congress to reflect on its history instead of merely advocating for democracy today.
Rijiju also appealed to Congress to stop promoting narratives perceived as anti-India, stating that foreign forces are attempting to undermine India and discredit its constitutional institutions. He emphasized that Congress, having ruled the country for an extended period, is expected to act as a responsible opposition.
Addressing Rahul Gandhi directly, Rijiju remarked that the political landscape has changed. Merely being born into a political family is no longer sufficient to attain the position of Prime Minister. He stressed that the youth of the country are moving forward with new ideas and that India is progressing towards its goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047. He urged the opposition to focus on building credibility among the public rather than challenging Modi and the NDA government.
Drawing from his own political experience, Rijiju shared that he spent nearly 25 years working at the grassroots level, engaging with people directly. He emphasized that continuous interaction with the public is key to earning their trust. He concluded that political success cannot be achieved through social media narratives or accusations against constitutional institutions but through genuine public engagement.
