Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Detained During Protest Demanding Election Chiefs Resignation

New Delhi, October 6 (Daily Kiran) : New Delhi witnessed a significant protest on Tuesday evening as Delhi police detained Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and party MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. The two were part of a demonstration at the Akashvani Bhawan, where they and other members of the India Bloc were demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

In addition to Gandhi and Vadra, several senior Congress leaders, including KC Venugopal, Pawan Khera, and Amarinder Singh Raja Wadding, were also taken into custody. The protest was staged just meters from the Election Commission of India (ECI) office.

During the demonstration, Rahul Gandhi, along with Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal and other MPs, was seen sitting under a tree within the Akashvani premises. They attempted to push through the gates of the facility to reach the Election Commission headquarters, which is located approximately 300 meters away. According to reports, a PCR call was made from Akashvani, alleging that Rahul Gandhi had forcibly entered the premises.

Speaking to the media, Rahul Gandhi expressed frustration, stating, “300 MPs have been stopped here, and then they made us sit. The Election Commission is just 50 yards away, yet they are not allowing us to go there. I do not understand what the issue is. The Election Commission’s role is to conduct elections properly. 300 MPs want to meet Gyanesh Kumar, but he is scared. I don’t know what is happening in the country. If representatives cannot meet, what is the meaning of democracy?”

He further criticized the current government, asserting, “What has been done to our country is treason, and no one will escape accountability. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, Mohan Bhagwat, and Gyanesh Kumar have dismantled democracy in this nation. The vote has been hijacked. No one will be spared; action will be taken against all.”

Pawan Khera added, “The Election Commission is right next to us, and the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha is being prevented from entering. They have been stopped.”

Tensions continue to escalate as the opposition demands accountability and transparency from the Election Commission.
