Chandigarh, July 30: The Leader of the Opposition in Punjab, Pratap Singh Bajwa, expressed serious concerns on Wednesday regarding the recurring controversies surrounding recruitment and competitive examinations in the state. He stated that the frequent irregularities have eroded the trust of youth in the fairness of the recruitment process.
Bajwa emphasized that the future of millions of eligible candidates cannot be compromised due to administrative failures or the government’s refusal to accept accountability.
He pointed out that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government has repeatedly claimed that no exam papers have leaked during its tenure. However, a series of controversies have emerged over the past four and a half years, raising questions about the credibility of recruitment examinations and the examination system itself.
Incidents such as the Naib Tehsildar recruitment exam, the Punjab State Teacher Eligibility Test (PSTET), the cancellation of the 12th-grade board English exam following confirmation of a paper leak, the Group-B recruitment controversy, and now allegations and irregularities related to the Pharmacy Officer recruitment exam have cast serious doubts on the government’s claims.
Bajwa questioned the government’s denial of a paper leak in the Pharmacy Officer recruitment exam, asserting that changing the name of the issue does not alter the reality. If there are questions about the integrity of the exam, if organized cheating allegedly occurred, and if doubts have been raised about the entire recruitment process’s credibility, who will take responsibility? Will the injustices faced by thousands of young candidates simply vanish because the government wishes to label it differently?
He raised concerns about why different standards are applied to similar incidents across the country. Bajwa noted that whenever exam papers leak elsewhere, both the AAP and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) immediately demand resignations and accountability. Why should Punjab be an exception? There cannot be different standards for accountability in other states and in Punjab.
