Chennai, July 30: MK Stalin, the leader of the DMK and former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, has sharply criticized the ruling Tamilga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) government regarding the transfer of 151 super-specialty medical seats from the state quota to the all-India quota. He accused the government of failing to protect Tamil Nadu’s interests and described this transfer as a significant blow to the state’s medical education system, demanding a detailed explanation.
In a statement released on social media, Stalin emphasized the importance of this issue for Tamil Nadu, stating that the loss of these seats will have long-term effects on healthcare in the state. He noted that these seats could have produced a large number of super-specialty doctors to serve patients in Tamil Nadu, thereby strengthening the state’s healthcare infrastructure in the coming years.
The former Chief Minister questioned the government’s approach to the legal battle over the seats, asking why it did not pass a resolution opposing the transfer in the Tamil Nadu Assembly. He also sought clarification on the government’s decision not to appeal the Supreme Court’s order from May 29, 2026.
Stalin alleged that the state government’s legal strategy was negligent. He raised concerns about why the lawyer appointed by the government failed to appear in court during critical phases of the hearing and why there was a delay in appointing a senior lawyer to argue effectively on the matter.
Describing the government’s attitude as ‘careless’ from the outset, the DMK leader claimed that the administration did not advance the case with the seriousness it warranted. He questioned why, despite having a strong case in favor of Tamil Nadu, the government effectively ‘surrendered’ and failed to present solid arguments before the Supreme Court.
Expressing further skepticism about the sequence of events, Stalin asked why the state counseling process was conducted before the second phase of all-India counseling and why all 151 super-specialty seats were declared vacant during the state counseling. He demanded clear answers from the TVK government regarding every aspect of this issue.
