Patna, July 30: A cheating attempt during the ‘Adhinyak Anudeshak’ (Commandant Instructor) recruitment exam, organized by the Bihar Police Subordinate Services Commission (BPSSC), was thwarted in Motihari on Wednesday.
During the examination, a candidate was caught using an electronic device hidden inside his sandal to receive answers from outside the exam hall. The police arrested the suspect and took two others into custody for questioning.
The arrested individual has been identified as Avinash Kumar, a resident of Bettiah in West Champaran district. The recruitment exam was conducted under strict security measures across 12 centers in East Champaran to prevent malpractice.
The incident was discovered during an inspection by Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) Arun Kumar and Sub-Divisional Police Officer (DSP) Dilip Kumar, who were visiting various exam centers. While inspecting the examination room at LND College, officials noticed suspicious behavior from a candidate and ordered a thorough search. During the search, they found the electronic device concealed in the candidate’s sandal.
According to the police, the gadget was designed to receive answers from external sources during the exam. Avinash Kumar was immediately taken into custody.
East Champaran Superintendent of Police Swarn Prabhat stated that during interrogation, the suspect revealed he learned cheating techniques by watching videos on YouTube. He purchased the electronic device online and planned to use it during the recruitment exam.
The police reported that the suspect devised a method to bypass security checks and even evade the electronic jammers installed at the exam center.
Investigators noted that before entering the exam premises, Avinash allegedly threw the sandal with the hidden device over the boundary wall and entered the center barefoot to avoid detection during the search. After completing the security check, he retrieved the sandals from inside the premises and wore them before entering the exam hall. However, his plan failed when officials noticed his suspicious activities during the inspection and confiscated the device.
Following his arrest, police detained two other individuals based on the information provided by Avinash. They are currently being interrogated to uncover their involvement in the alleged cheating racket.
Investigators are now working to identify other members of the network and determine how the electronic device was acquired, who was responsible for sending answers from outside the exam center, and whether other candidates employed similar methods. The police are continuing their investigation into the matter.
