Punjab Chief Minister Lays Foundation for ₹61.82 Crore Dhussi Dam Link Road Project

Chandigarh, June 19: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann laid the foundation stone for the Dhussi Dam Link Road project on Friday. The project, costing ₹61.82 crore, will span 37.93 kilometers in Jalandhar district. It aims to provide a permanent solution to the long-standing flood issues in the Sutlej region.

This project will connect the Shahkot-Moga-Rampur road to the Gidderpindi Dhussi Dam. Designed to serve as both a vital road corridor and a robust flood protection wall, it will benefit thousands of families in 15 villages.

In addition to safeguarding residents from recurrent flooding, the project will alleviate traffic congestion on the main road network, boost economic activities, and enhance the state’s rapidly growing infrastructure under the government’s ongoing initiative to build world-class roads.

Present at the event were Rajya Sabha MP Sant Baba Balbir Singh Seechewal and other dignitaries. CM Mann addressed the gathering, stating that the total length of this crucial road along the Sutlej River will be 37.93 kilometers.

He mentioned that the government has approved ₹61.82 crore for this significant infrastructure project. Residents of Shahkot and Lohian have faced the constant threat of flooding for decades. Previous governments made grand promises during elections but overlooked the infrastructural needs of this rural area.

The Chief Minister emphasized that his government believes in delivering results rather than making false promises. He noted that he has witnessed the difficulties faced by local residents when villages become isolated during the rainy season.

He added that the construction of this road on the Dhussi Dam will strengthen the embankment along the Sutlej River, providing a robust shield against flood-related dangers for the local population.

CM Mann stated that this road will greatly facilitate daily commutes for approximately 15,000 to 16,000 residents in around 15 villages. It will connect the Shahkot-Moga road to the Lohian-Makhu road, functioning as an effective bypass that will significantly reduce traffic jams on existing routes.

During the monsoon season, this road will be a boon for farmers, school buses, and the general public, allowing for smooth and uninterrupted travel.
