New Delhi, May 5: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann met with President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday. The President’s office announced the meeting on the social media platform X, stating that Mann visited the Rashtrapati Bhavan for the discussion.
Following the meeting, Mann took to X to express that he strongly raised his voice against the ongoing “murder of democracy” in the country. He accused the government of undermining political parties through unconstitutional means and misusing central agencies like the Enforcement Directorate and the Central Bureau of Investigation to cleanse tainted leaders in what he termed the BJP’s “washing machine,” which he believes directly undermines the democratic framework.
Mann emphasized that tactics like “Operation Lotus” will never succeed in Punjab. He asserted that the state’s legislators represent the voices of millions of Punjabis, who will not tolerate betrayal.
“As your public servant, I assure every Punjabi that we will fight until our last breath to protect the people’s mandate and constitutional values,” he stated.
Additionally, Raghav Chadha and other Rajya Sabha MPs, who recently left the Aam Aadmi Party to join the BJP, also met with President Murmu. After their meeting, Chadha shared on X that they were honored to meet the President alongside three other MPs.
Chadha mentioned that they informed her about the misuse of state machinery by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government to target them for exercising their constitutional rights, especially after two-thirds of the MPs decided to merge with the BJP. He noted that the party that once accused others of vendetta politics is now adopting its most toxic form.
He added that they felt reassured by the President’s commitment to respecting constitutional rights and democratic decisions.
