Chandigarh, March 29: The Punjab BJP has launched a sharp attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government.
State BJP’s acting president, Ashwani Sharma, accused Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann of remaining silent on several serious scams and irregularities linked to the Verka and nutrition supply chain. This silence raises significant concerns about public health and systemic corruption.
Sharma pointed out that the recent rejection of nearly 125 metric tons of Verka milk powder by the Indian Army due to quality issues highlights the rot within the system.
He emphasized that this is not an isolated incident but part of a broader pattern. Sharma referenced previous allegations of chemical adulteration in the milk supplied to Verka plants, various financial irregularities across different units, and the shocking quality failures recently exposed by the Indian Army.
He also shed light on the controversial Panjeeri (Integrated Child Development Services nutrition scheme), suggesting it could potentially involve a scam worth ₹1,000 to ₹1,500 crores.
The BJP leader stated, “Since 2022, the AAP government has handed over supplies from trusted cooperatives like Verka to private contractors under a dubious tender process. There are serious allegations of hasty approvals, collusion between companies, and compromises on nutrition quality, including substituting ghee with cheaper alternatives like soybean oil. This matter is already under consideration by the Punjab and Haryana High Court.”
Ashwani Sharma accused CM Mann of colluding with the “milk mafia,” asserting that merely suspending officials is a superficial exercise and wholly inadequate.
He stressed, “When the nutrition of children and the health of soldiers are compromised, it is not negligence but criminal betrayal.”
The BJP has demanded a timely CBI investigation into all scams related to Verka, the allegations of adulteration, and the Panjeeri controversy, or an inquiry under the supervision of the High Court, to uncover the truth and ensure accountability.
Sharma concluded, “Punjab deserves answers, not silence. The people will not forgive this betrayal.”
